Roots - Water Inquiry topics with Waikare, Candice and Alice
ROOTS, a group from the community came to St Pius X to teach us about the importance of water and how they can save it. This tied in with our Inquiry unit on Water and ran for 5 weeks. Room 6 also did this unit and we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Water Cycle, the different States of Matter for water, how to make our own Water filter, how to make a Vertical Garden, and how to make a litterless lunchbox.
Alice, Waikare and Candice from ROOTS did exciting hands on learning with us and we learned a song that helped us remember the Water Cycle.
Term 2 Swimming in the mobile pool
St Pius X have a mobile swimming pool in Term 2 and 2 swimming instructors, Emma and Joseph for 3 weeks. We learned new swimming skills and have also had a lot of fun playing in the pool. Please look at our blogs to see our writing about swimming experiences.

Term 1 Get Money Wise
We listened to a visitor from ASB bank show us different ways to make money. He showed us how important it was to save some of the money we earned rather than spending it all at once. He brought money from different countries so we could see the different names and colours of bank notes from other countries.
